Property Description

Step into an extraordinary slice of Daufuskie history and heritage - surrounded by meaningful 2026 upgrades and stunning, direct westerly marsh sunset views - and be inspired. The Sarah Grant House, named for its remarkable original owner, is situated in Maryfield, one of the most established and desirable areas of the Historical District. Built early 1900s, this uniquely storied property offers an opportunity to own a documented piece of Gullah and Lowcountry history. The Grant's remarkable roles in the community included midwife, elementary and Sunday school teacher, oyster shucker and undertaker. Recognized among places of historic and cultural importance, the property has been featured in multiple publications. Noteworthy later owners/occupants include an Atlanta carpenter, craftsman and artist who handcrafted the home's elaborate decorative trim, and a celebrated Myrtle Beach writer and philanthropist known for his book on Shag, lush poetry and legendary gatherings.Over the years, the property evolved while retaining its distinctive character, including expanded living space, a commercial well, a permitted deep-water dock originally envisioned for commercial oystering, and an accessory dwelling that has served as a jam-band gathering space, painter's studio and today, as a charming guest cottage. Set on approximately 3/4acre with more than 1,100sqft of finished living space between the 2 dwellings, the property comfortably accommodates around 10 guests and has a strong, loyal short-term rental history. Fresh interior/exterior paint plus updated plumbing, electrical, tech, fixtures, furnishings and decor complement hand-carved woodwork, stained glass, heart pine, mosaic tile, haint-blue and tabby accents to create a soulful, relaxed island aesthetic. Historical District residents may enjoy motor vehicles, boats on trailers, gardens, chickens, workshops, home-based businesses and short-term rentals, subject to applicable county codes. Optional, private Haig Point club membership offers 24/7 ferry service, valet and concierge services, dining, fitness, tennis, equestrian center, social events and more. Just a short boat run from Hilton Head, Palmetto Bluff and Savannah, Daufuskie is South Carolina's southernmost inhabited sea island, celebrated for its beaches, natural beauty, moss-draped oaks, palmettos, salty breezes and spectacular sunsets. Welcome to the Sarah Grant House - where history has left its mark, and the next chapter is yours to be written.
